Hey, addon compilation authors
None of this applies to you. If you read the If you read the licence, I grant all addon complilation authors the explicit right to host your complilation that contains SBF wherever you like (as long as you aren't modifying SBF). This page is only for people who want to host SBF alone for direct download on their sites, like Curse and WoWInterface do. Carry on!
Can I host SBF on my site?
In a word, no. I've danced this dance before, and I only have the time and patience to keep updates going on Curse and WoWInterface. Yes, I am sure you are sincere in your claims that you will faithfully keep it updated through all updates I ever make - right now. The truth is that you, like all the others, will stop being an eager beaver and the versions will fall behind, and I start getting more requests for support for out of date versions that people got from your site. This isn't me speculating, this is what has happened every time. It's a waste of my time that directly reduces the time I have to code enhancements to SBF. So, no, you don't get to host SBF. Sorry.
Well I'll just do it without telling you, what then smart guy?
SBF is free as in beer, but not free as in speech. If you read the licence that SBF is governed by (and is included in every zipfile of the software), you will notice that for direct distribution, I reserve the right to grant permission as to which sites my copyrighted work may be hosted. The criteria for granting permission is this: If I upload my copyrighted work to your site, I granted you permission to host it. If anyone that is not me uploaded it, then you do not have permission to host it. I've posted DMCA takedown notices to other sites' ISPs to enforce my copyrights before, and you can bet I'll do it to you as well.
Why are you such an asshole about this?
Because it's my copyrighted work. I put the effort into creating it. I'm the one who spends many hours supporting users. I'm the one who has wasted hours of my life dealing with users that got my addon from some site that I didn't even know it was on. Most of the people asking to host are just looking for page hits to get a few cents of ad revenue in exchange for making more work for me. Not a very good trade in my book. Maybe that isn't you and you really are an altruistic soul just trying to help out. Blame it on the jerks who came before. The answer is still no.
